AMF bowling Scoring card.AMF machines will calculate the scoring for you, but to understand the process better, we have explained it below.

A game consists of 10 turns or 'Frames'. In each frame, you get to roll two balls to knock down the pins. The score is then worked out as follows:

If you fail to knock all of the pins over in 2 balls, you score the number that you do knock down.

If you knock all of the pins down in 2 balls, this is called a 'spare' and scores 10 plus the number of pins you hit on your next ball.

If you knock all of the pins down in only 1 ball, this is called a 'strike' and scores 10 plus the number of pins you hit on your next 2 balls.

Example game (first 4 frames):

Table explaining scorecard.
Frame 1 Two balls, scoring 4 and then 2. Total 6.
Frame2 First ball scores a 3, the second ball hits the remaining 7 pins to score a Spare. This totals 10 for this frame, plus the first ball in the next. The next ball is a strike so the total score is 20. The frame stays blank until the next ball is known.
Frame 3 A Strike! 10 for this ball, plus both the next balls, in this case a 7 and a miss. Total score this frame is 17. The frame stays blank until the next two balls are known.
Frame 4 A 7 followed by a miss. This scores only 7 more to give a total of 50 in the 4 frames.
